We believe you should know not only where your food comes from, but also what was used to grow it. Below you'll find the fertilizers, soil amendments, crop protectants, and supplies we use on our farm, along with an explanation of how and why we use them.
What We Use
-
Hoffman Horticultural Perlite
A lightweight volcanic mineral used to increase soil aeration and drainage. Commonly incorporated into seed-starting mixes, propagation media, and custom potting blends.
We currently use Hoffman Horticultural Perlite in some seed-starting and propagation mixes to improve aeration and drainage.
-
Hoffman Horticultural Vermiculite
Hoffman Horticultural Vermiculite is a lightweight, naturally occurring mineral that helps improve moisture retention and seed germination. It is commonly incorporated into seed-starting mixes and propagation media to help maintain consistent moisture levels around developing roots while still allowing for proper air exchange.
We currently use vermiculite in select seed-starting and propagation mixes to help retain moisture during germination and early plant development. It is used alongside other growing media components to create a balanced environment for healthy root growth.
-

Tomato, Vegetable & Herb Fertilizer is an OMRI Listed organic fertilizer formulated for vegetables, herbs, and other garden crops. It contains lobster meal, kelp meal, fish bone meal, and other organic nutrient sources that provide balanced nutrition throughout the growing season.
We use this fertilizer to support healthy vegetable and herb production by providing a balanced source of nutrients that promote vigorous growth, flowering, and crop development.
-
Espoma Organic Berry-tone
Espoma Organic Berry-tone is a fertilizer formulated specifically for blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and other berry-producing plants. It contains a blend of natural and organic ingredients designed to support healthy growth, flowering, and fruit production throughout the growing season.
We use Berry-tone on select berry crops to provide long-term nutrition and support healthy plant development. It helps promote strong root systems, vigorous growth, and quality fruit production while aligning with our commitment to responsible growing practices.
-
Wiggle Worm Pure Worm Castings
Wiggle Worm Pure Worm Castings is an OMRI Listed organic soil amendment produced through the natural digestion of organic materials by earthworms. Rich in organic matter, beneficial microorganisms, and plant-available nutrients, worm castings are commonly used to improve soil structure, enhance biological activity, and support healthy plant growth in both gardens and container-growing applications.
We use Wiggle Worm Pure Worm Castings in many of our seed-starting and growing mixes because they provide organic matter, beneficial microorganisms, and naturally available nutrients. We value worm castings for their ability to support healthy soil biology and create favorable growing conditions for strong root development and overall plant health.
-
Jiffy Biodegradable Peat Pots
Jiffy Peat Pots are OMRI Listed biodegradable planting containers made primarily from compressed peat and natural plant fibers. Designed for seed starting and transplant production, the pots allow roots to grow through the container walls and can be planted directly into the soil, where they naturally break down over time.
We use Jiffy Peat Pots for all of our seed-starting operations and do not start seeds in plastic containers. These biodegradable pots help reduce root disturbance during transplanting, minimize transplant shock, and allow young plants to develop healthy root systems before being planted into the garden or field.
-
GROW !T Coco Coir Planting Mix
Coco coir is a natural growing medium made from the fibrous outer husk of coconuts. This OMRI Listed planting mix is lightweight, renewable, and valued for its ability to retain moisture while still providing excellent aeration for plant roots. Coco coir is commonly used in seed-starting mixes, potting blends, container gardening, and hydroponic growing systems.
We use OMRI Listed coco coir in certain growing mixes because it helps maintain consistent moisture levels while improving root-zone aeration. Its renewable nature, water-holding capacity, and organic compatibility make it a useful component in seed-starting, propagation, and container-growing applications where healthy root development is important.
-
Coast of Maine Stonington Blend Organic Plant Food (5-2-4)
Stonington Blend is an OMRI Listed organic fertilizer designed to provide balanced nutrition for a wide variety of crops. It is made from natural ingredients including lobster meal, kelp meal, worm castings, fish bone meal, and other organic nutrient sources that contribute nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace minerals.
We use Stonington Blend as a general-purpose fertilizer throughout the farm because it provides a balanced source of nutrition while incorporating marine-based ingredients and organic matter that support healthy plant growth, root development, and overall soil health.
-
Surround® WP Crop Protectan
Surround WP is an OMRI Listed crop protectant made primarily from processed kaolin clay, a naturally occurring mineral. When mixed with water and applied to plants, it forms a protective particle film on the surface of leaves, fruit, and stems. It is commonly used in organic production systems to help reduce insect pressure, minimize sunscald on fruit, and protect crops from certain environmental stresses.
We use Surround® WP as part of our integrated crop management approach to help protect plants from insect damage and environmental stress. It is primarily used on melons, squash, and pumpkins, and is only applied when significant insect activity or feeding damage is observed. Its mineral-based formulation and OMRI Listed status make it a useful tool for supporting healthy crop production while reducing the need for more aggressive pest control measures.
-
Great White Granular 1 Mycorrhizal Inoculant
Great White Granular 1 is an OMRI Listed mycorrhizal inoculant containing beneficial fungi and microorganisms that form a natural symbiotic relationship with plant roots. These organisms colonize the root zone and can help plants improve nutrient uptake, water absorption, root development, and overall resilience throughout the growing season.
We use Great White Granular 1 selectively in certain seed beds and planting areas where we want to encourage strong root establishment and healthy soil biology. Rather than applying it throughout the entire farm, we reserve its use for specific crops and growing situations where additional biological support may provide the greatest benefit during early plant development.
-
NorCal Horticultural Perlite
A lightweight volcanic mineral that has been expanded through a heating process to create porous particles that improve soil structure. NorCal Horticultural Perlite is OMRI Listed for organic production and is commonly used in seed-starting mixes, propagation media, potting soils, and other growing applications where improved aeration and drainage are desired.
We use NorCal Horticultural Perlite in certain seed-starting and propagation mixes to increase air space around plant roots, improve drainage, and help create growing conditions that support healthy root development and vigorous plant growth.
-
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring mineral powder composed of fossilized aquatic organisms known as diatoms. It is OMRI Listed and is commonly used in organic growing systems as a physical barrier against certain insect pests. Unlike conventional insecticides, it works through physical contact rather than chemical action.
We use food grade diatomaceous earth in the same manner as Surround WP, only when insect pressure becomes significant enough to threaten crop health. It may be applied to select crops such as melons, squash, and pumpkins when needed to help reduce insect damage.
A Note About Our Inputs
Farming is always a work in progress. The products listed here represent the fertilizers, soil amendments, pest controls, and supplies we currently use or have used on our farm. As we learn, experiment, and adapt to each growing season, this list may change.
Not every product is used on every crop, but because plants share the same environment, they may occasionally be exposed to products used elsewhere on the farm through normal farming activities such as wind, rain, or equipment movement.
Our goal is simple: be open about what we use and why we use it.
